David Baldacci is de succesvolle auteur van meer dan 30 thrillers, romans, jeugdthrillers en kinderboeken. Hij werd geboren in Virginia en studeerde politieke wetenschappen aan de Virginia Commonwealth University, waar hij cum laude afstudeerde, en rechten aan de University of Virginia. Tijdens deze periode begon hij met schrijven. Na zijn studies was hij negen jaar werkzaam als bedrijfsjurist en advocaat in Washington D.C. In 1996 debuteerde hij met Het recht van de macht en vanaf dat moment wijdde hij zich geheel aan het schrijven.
