Interessante en leesbare essaybundel over kenmerkende Japanse concepten (van Bushido tot Zoto) die voor ons Europeanen mysterieus en verrassend kunnen zijn. De essays zijn geschreven door studenten in Japan en zijn niet al te lang (zo tussen de 3 en 5 pagina's). Het boek kan als leerboek worden gebruikt want aan het eind van elk essay zijn een aantal vragen geformuleerd voor een groepsdiscussie (of de lezer aan het denken te zetten). Een uitstekende introductie op niveau voor wie geïnteresseerd is in de Japanse manier van denken of van plan is met enige kennis van zaken een bezoek te brengen aan het land.
