Three-and-a-half thousand years after the start of Leto’s remarkable transformation Dune is no longer a desert planet and Leto has become the undisputed God Emperor of the universe, bringing long lasting peace to mankind. Leto’s peace is actually more an enforced tranquility required to ensure the survival of humankind when the alternative is chaos. However, how does one convince humans whose immediate concern usually does not extend past one lifetime? There are people that can see only tyranny in Leto’s Golden Path … but how does one stop a seemingly invincible God possessing the power of prescience?

‘God Emperor of Dune’ is an absolute joy to read! This fourth book in the series brings the Dune saga to a new epic scale and comes with a focused writing style that is refreshing after the two previous installments in the series. This creates a story that one can really immerse oneself into. The story offers a compelling challenge to try to understand the creature that Leto has become as well as his Golden Path. The plot that is devised to put an end to the all-knowing God Emperor is gripping. That and the role of Duncan Idaho who finds himself lost in a new world that has perhaps changed even more than Leto himself makes this an emotionally touching and engaging novel that is very difficult to put down. For a large part of the novel it is not really clear what the story is headed to, but that really does not matter when the story is as powerful as this one: you just want it to go on. This is science-fiction/fantasy writing at its best!

Briljante geest zoals je ze niet veel aantreft onder schrijvers, dit is echt iemand die abnormaal veel waarneemt en verbanden legt en tegelijk een prachtig ontroerend boek schrijft.

Het begint erg spannend en de spanning bouwt daarna goed op.

Terwijl ik soms bij de eerste drie delen van de dune reeks het gevoel kreeg dat ik de boeken niet volledig begreep (deels doordat Herbert toch best ingewikkelde onderwerpen in zijn boeken verwerkt) vond ik de science fiction aspecten van de boeken heel erg intrigerend. Daarom naar mijn mening vindt ik dit deel van de reeks erg fijn. Hoewel het nog steeds Herbert is en dus nog steeds onderwerpen in het boek zijn verwerkt die je aan het denken zetten is dit een boek dat ook lekker veel focust op de science fiction en die ingewikkelde ideeën zijn beter te begrijpen of natuurlijk veel beter te missen ;)
