Antonio Iturbe (Barcelona, 1967) is journalist en cultuurredacteur voor verschillende kranten en tijdschriften. Bovendien is hij auteur van meerdere romans en een kinderboek. Hij schreef De bibliothecaresse van Auschwitz naar aanleiding van een passage in Alberto Maguels boek over de kleine clandestiene bibliotheek in Auschwitz. Hij baseerde zijn roman op de vele gesprekken die hij had met Auschwitz-overleefster Dita Dorachova.

And so Dita becomes the secret librarian of Auschwitz, responsible for the safekeeping of the small collection of titles, as well as the 'living books' - prisoners of Auschwitz who know certain books so well, they too can be 'borrowed' to educate the children in the camp.
