Despite his growing distance from God, twenty-seven-year-old David Forester pastors a thriving church. But his sexual frustration leads him to pursue his church's teenage organist and escalates to sexual excesses with parishioner Ruth Dubois.


After his wife exhibits a sudden interest in sex, Reverend Forester tries to end his extramarital liaisons, but Ruth plans to destroy his marriage in order to maintain her hold over him. She then murders a mob boss and steals a fortune to fund the preacher's career in evangelism.
