Haar debuut, De Goudvisjongen, werd in Engeland voor vele prijzen genomineerd, waaronder de Carnegie Medal, The Branford Boase Award en de Waterstones Children’s Book Prize. In Nederland kreeg ze in 2018 een Vlag en Wimpel toegekend. Haar boeken worden in 9 landen vertaald. Lisa Thompons tweede boek, The Light Jar, verscheen in april 2018. In Nederland is deze vertaald als De Nachtlantaarn.
