"Louis Sachar is een Amerikaanse schrijver. Hij werd geboren in New York op 20 maart 1954. Een van zijn bekendste boek is Gaten (Holes), een roman voor jonge kinderen. Hiermee won hij in 1998 de Amerikaans National Book Award for Young People's Literature. In 1999 won hij ook de Newbery Medal voor zijn bijdrage aan de Amerikaanse literatuur voor kinderen. Tegenwoordig woont Sachar in Austin, Texas met zijn vrouw.
