Geraint Anderson

Geraint Anderson (born 1972 in Notting Hill, London), is a former City of London utilities sector analyst, and newspaper columnist, best known for his City Boy column in thelondonpaper.

Anderson was raised at his parents' London home in Notting Hill. Taking a gap year in Asia, Anderson lived the hippy life. He then undertook a degree in history at Queens' College, University of Cambridge, and then an MA in revolutions at Sussex University, before heading back to Goa to plan a trading based lifestyle in trinkets.

However, his parents were not pleased, and so his older brother Hugh who worked as fund manager with Dutch investment bank ABN Amro arranged an interview in 1996. Anderson was resultantly employed as a utilities analyst, composing models of publicly listed companies. In 1997 he moved to Société Générale, and in 1999 to Commerzbank. In 2000, Anderson was judged the fourth highest-ranked analyst.

Anderson started writing his City Boy column anonymously in 2006 for thelondonpaper. In 2008, Anderson revealed that he was the columnist of City Boy. That year, he published his first book: Cityboy: Beer And Loathing In The Square Mile.

A second book Cityboy: 50 Ways to Survive the Crunch was published in November 2008.

Samenvatting

'Who is Cityboy? He's every brash, suited, FT-carrying idiot who ever pushed past you on the tube. He's the egotistical buffoon who loudly brags about how much cash he's made on the market at otherwise pleasant dinner parties. He's the greedy, ruthless wanker whose actions are helping turn this world into the shit-hole it's rapidly becoming. For one period in my life, he was me.' In this no-holds-barred, warts-and-all account of life in London's financial heartland, Cityboy breaks the Square Mile's code of silence in his own inimitable style, revealing explosive secrets, tricks of the trade and the corrupt, murky underbelly at the heart of life in the City. Drawing on his experience as a young analyst in a major investment bank, the six-figure bonuses, monstrous egos, and the everyday culture of verbal and substance abuse that fuels the world's money markets is brutally exposed as Cityboy describes his ascent up the hierarchy of this intensely competitive and morally dubious industry, and how it almost cost him his sanity.
