With a backdrop like the Blandings Castle of Wodehouse, this novel unfolds the story of a young practical idealist who despises the deterioration of social customs and values all around. He aspires to see the qualitative changes in his social surroundings resulting in a happy and a prosperous society. He starts loving a girl. However, his ideals come in the way of his love. As he is an avid believer of the Grand Design in which there is a full scope for human efforts, so the result is obvious. There is a Nature's bounty which eliminates all the obstacles in the way of his love. Throughout the book, there is a strong current for a better change.
