Het is duidelijk dat De Botton dit pas kon schreven toen hij 50 was. Het zit vol met wijsheid. Het is een coherent beeld over de liefde, en het beeld dat De Botton ons geeft is een stuk werkbaarder dan het perfectionistische beeld dat normaliter in films en boeken wordt geschetst. Iedereen die van plan is een lange-termijn relatie aan te gaan moet dit boek een keer in diens leven gelezen hebben.

- Moeilijk in te komen
Het is wel in een verrassende stijl geschreven. Verhaal en analyse worden opeenvolgend beschreven. Sommigen zullen dit als storend ervaren. Voor mij was dat niet het geval. Ben heel erg wisselend door dit boek gegaan. Vond het enerzijds interessant , anderzijds vanuit een betuttelende mannelijke hoek belicht.
