De Britse militair-historicus Antony Beevor studeerde aan Winchester College en aan de Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, waar hij werd onderwezen door Sir John Keegan. The Red Army had much to avenge when it finally reached the frontiers of the Third Reich in January 1945.
