Interessante kijk op een stuk vroege geschiedenis van Engeland. De voor velen onbekende Athelstan is een kleinzoon van de bekendere Alfred de Grote die aan de basis stond van een verenigd Engeland, dat toen uit een viertal koninkrijken bestond. Athelstan voltooide de missie van zijn grootvader en wist tevens de invallende Vikingen (Danes) terug te dringen. Holland is een groot historicus die zeer boeiend en intelligent weet te schrijven. Wel voor echte liefhebbers.
