Brown is een dichter/tekstschrijver uit de Britse
underground-scene. In het begin van de jaren zestig combineert hij zijn gedichten met de muziek
van musici als Graham Bond en Dick Heckstall-Smith. Het bekendste is Brown echter door zijn
samenwerking met Jack Bruce. Hij heeft de teksten geschreven voor Cream-hits als 'White Room'
en 'Sunshine Of Your Love' en voor alle Bruce-elpees. Hij maakt in zijn teksten veelvuldig gebruik
van symboliek. Brown is zelf ook leider geweest van twee groepen: The Battered Ornaments,
waarin o.a. Chris Spedding heeft gespeeld, en Piblokto, maar beide groepen zijn niet belangrijk
geweest. In '77 vormt hij opnieuw een eigen groep, Back To The Front, die korte tijd later uit
elkaar valt.
