Discourse and ideology are quintessential concepts in many branches of linguistics. However, with many ways of understanding and using these concepts, the boundaries between them may be difficult to discern. This volume aims to explore how discourse and ideology can be used jointly and separately as theoretical and/or analytical concepts, depending on the nature of the data, the definition of and relationship between the concepts, and the epistemological roots activated in each context. The chapters in this volume show how the potentially problematic relationship between discourse and ideology can be resolved either by emphasizing one or the other, or by using them in a contrastive or complementary manner.
