Samenvatting
At the end of the last century, the Republic of Croatia survived five years of Serbo-Montenegrin military aggression. This book provides real, documented evidence on the fates of Serbian victims. The powerful and well-armed Yugoslav People's Army was completely infiltrated by Serbian officers and served as a Serbian army. They gave weapons to Serbian civilians in Croatia. At the start of the Serbian aggression, we established the Medical Corps Headquarter. Among its many tasks was the creation of a register of civilian victims with 32 points of evidence for their identification. Each victim was identified at the place of crime, or after autoptic procedure. There were 7,263 killed civilians from the beginning of the aggression in 1991 until 1998. Among the killed civilians, there were 46,6% over 60 years of age, and 44% were women. Also, 345 children were killed. Such structure of civilian victims indicates that the Serbian artillery was directed toward civilians instead of military targets. The result of such strategy was 210,000 Croats expelled by Serbs (according to the Hague 170,000). On the other side, the Serbian leadership ordered the emigration of their civilians from Croatia and the order is here presented and cited. The suffering of civilians in protected UNPROFOR areas is documented. 347 civilians were killed in the area of UNPROFOR protection, 1,7991 civilians were expelled, 36 raped and 1,617 tortured. Besides those killed, 9,858 wounded civilians are also precisely evidenced, including the 1,184 (12 %) children among them. The sign of the red cross, properly marked on all health facilities, served as a target for Serbian shells. Until the end of the war, 17 hospitals were destroyed by artillery and are here documented in detail. The isolated crimes against Serbian civilians and killed Serbian civilians are analyzed on the basis of three official records. In total, less than 200 Serbian killed civilians were recorded. The enormous difference between such a small number of Serbian civilian victims and the 7,263 Croatian civilian victims is explained by the fact that more than 400,000 Serbian soldiers were on Croatian territory, while not a single Croatian soldier crossed the border into Serbian territory. Mankind always has a great problem if war crimes remained unpunished. The vast majority of Serbian war crimes have not yet been punished. The world did not learn a lesson from the Serbian-Montenegrin aggression on the Republic of Croatia.
