Samenvatting

The leading cause of teenage deaths is driving accidents. Teenagers are subject to judgment errors common to youngsters and many adults. The primary causes of accidents are failure to obey the rules, responding to situations too quickly without thinking, believing an accident is unlikely to happen to them as the result of their behavior, failing to respond appropriately, and believing they, more than others, can do extraordinary things. Hazardous thinking is the core to this new driving manual. A similar manual by the author has been successfully used in aviation flight training for the past 20 years. Flying aircraft is considered as a hazardous activity, and spectacular accidents occasionally grab the news headlines. Automobile accidents occur on a nearly daily basis, so we have become used to the brief articles in the daily news. A recent local vehicle tragedy caused Tom to write a new book directed at new teenage drivers. Safety can be a difficult subject to present to many young people who consider themselves invincible. The advent of new electronic devices such as Kindle, Ipad, Blackberry, etc has been welcomed with enthusiasm by young people. The new driving manual is only available on these and similar electronic devices through Amazon.com. Electronic publications are very inexpensive as there are no printing, or shipping costs. The target audience is the parents and grandparents of the new drivers. For the low cost of only $6.95, it is hoped the youngsters will be encouraged and convinced to spend the two hours or so to read the new book, and do the reinforcing exercises. Further reinforcement can come from the driver teachers and other adults familiar with the simple concepts. Examples of poor judgment exercised daily on the highways are easy to point out. Important additional benefits to using this new manual include influencing other hazardous behavior such as drugs and alcohol.
