Samenvatting

The Gemeentemuseum in The Hague was one of the last designs of H.P. Berlage (1856-1934). Over the years, the special architecture has gained in appreciation. Not only did the museum earn the status of monument in 1984, the building was also included in the collection of the Gemeentemuseum. In this publication Pieter Singelenberg, retired professor of architecture, elaborates on the museums characteristics, shown to full advantage again by the restoration. Next, Titus Eliëns, the Gemeentemuseum's head curator of applied arts, discusses a number of highlights from the collection of designs that Berlage made for the interior. The book ends with an architectural walk along a number of buildings in The Hague designed by Berlage.
