Lydia Davis
Lydia Davis (1947) is inmiddels alom bekend als de koningin van het korte verhaal, en ookl van een vorm die zij zelf grotendeels heeft uitgevonden: het ultra-korte verhaal. Ze schreef diverse verhalenbundels, die onder andere voor de National Book Award werden genomineerd. In 2009 werden deze gebundeld als The Collected Stories of Lydia Davis (in het Nederlands in twee delen verschenen als Bezoek aan haar man en Varianten van ongemak), waarmee ze in één klap internationaal doorbrak. Davis vertaalde ook een groot aantal Franse auteurs onder wie Flaubert, Proust en Foucault. Ze beïnvloedt een hele generatie schrijvers, onder wie Jonathan Franzen, Dave Eggers en David Foster Wallace. In 2013 werd haar oeuvre bekroond met de Man Booker International Prize.
