"Samuel Langhorne Clemens (November 30, 1835 – April 21, 1910), better known by his pen name Mark Twain, was an American writer, humorist, entrepreneur, publisher, and lecturer. Among his novels are The Adventures of Tom Sawyer (1875) and its sequel, the Adventures of Huckleberry Finn (1885), the latter often called ""The Great American Novel"".

First published in 1897, Twain's travel book “Following the Equator - A Journey Around the World” chronicles his 1895 tour of the British Empire when he was 60 years old. Fundamentally a social commentary, it is critical of what Twain considered England's oppressive imperialism and the racism that existed inside the empire. Other notable works by this author include: “The Gilded Age: A Tale of Today” (1873) and “The Prince and the Pauper” (1881). Read & Co.
