This book aims to further the debate on new sustainability thinking within the built environment by bringing together a selection of short perspectives from thought leaders in the UK and internationally, with an overarching narrative from Martin Brown.

Although progress in sustainability has been made over the past decade, the trend is still one of slow adoption and of a woefully wasteful sector. The built environment no longer has the luxury of just incrementally reducing negative impact. Central to FutuREstorative is the emergence of a net-positive and restorative sustainability, exploring the shift from an often-blinkered focus on sustainability as being simply energy performance to a more rounded debate, covering health, wellness, biophilia, connectivity with nature and healthy buildings.

The book also spotlights digital sharing and collaboration through social media and BIM as the new tools in the ‘sustainability toolbox’ which provide unique and powerful opportunities to rapidly advance sustainability thinking, development and action.
