This book gives a great review of Italian socio-political history. Don't be put off by the year numbers in the title (1980-2001). The book is neither dated nor does it cover too little time. Describing the political history in combination with the underlaying social structures in Italy, this book is really what you need in order to understand the current political situation in Italy. If you want to be able to have detailed political discussions with Italians, this book will give you all the information you need.
