Samenvatting

This study by Martien Brinkman is part of a broader study project on 'Perspectives of Salvation in Ecumenical Dialogue' of the ecumenical institute at Utrecht. The study provides fresh insights into the historical controversies about justification/sanctification and its biblical focus, especially in Pauline theology. Thereby Brinkman always keeps an open eye on the topical problems of secularization and the struggle for human wholeness and justice. He does not shrink back from dealing in some detail with the method of 'overcoming history bij history' by going back into the time of the Reformation and the Tridentine disputations. He then evaluates carefully the Roman Catholic, Lutheran, Reformed, Anglican and Evangelical convergencies in the international bilateral dialogues of the past 30 years. His specific perspective is the application of the justification paradigm to the urgent key issues of church and world.
