Luigi Rossi Flight Lieutenant

Luigi Rossi - Flight Lieutenant is the story of a young impoverished Italian who achieves a boyhood dream by becoming one of Italy's finest fighter pilots in its famous squadron, I Quattro Gatti - 'The Four Cats'. Although the young Luigi, or Gigino as he is known, is, like most Italian men of his age, a fascist who blindly follows Mussolini, he falls in love with a beautiful English girl and then finds his alliances tested as the war approaches. When Italy is drawn into the conflict, Gigino quickly realises his country is unprepared for engagement in full-scale war, and political betrayal leads inevitably to tragic consequences for his peace-loving countrymen. Faced with the loss of all he holds dear, Gigino struggles to cling to the values that have sustained him through the years of striving and hardship. Through the story of Luigi Rossi, the reader is swept up in an epic drama and love story pursued across three continents - Europe, Africa and Australia - following the journey of this young man who conquers his hatred towards death, confronts his fear of life, and ultimately comes to understand and accept his destiny.
