Edvard Grieg
Grieg werd ook wel ""de Chopin van het Noorden"" genoemd. Zijn eerste compositie Variaties op een Duitse melodie, voor piano, schreef hij op twaalfjarige leeftijd. Hij nam het werk mee naar school, maar werd er voor gestraft, en het manuscript werd verbrand.
Tot zijn bekendere werk worden het Pianoconcert in a mineur, de Lyrische Stukken voor piano, de Liederen (voor zang), en de Peer Gynt suites gerekend.
Grieg had zijn leven lang last van ademhalingsproblemen door een ernstige vorm van pleuritis. In de morgen van 4 september 1907 kwam Grieg op 64 jarige leeftijd te overlijden."
