"Ottessa Moshfegh is geboren in Boston. Voor haar korte verhalen in The Paris Review ontving ze de Plimpton Prize. Tevens kreeg ze een 'creative writing fellowship' van de National Endowment of the Arts. Momenteel is ze een Wallace Stegner fellow aan Stanford University. Ottessa Moshfegh was awarded the 2013 Plimpton Discovery Prize for her stories in the Paris Review and a creative writing fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts. She is currently a Wallace Stegner fellow at Stanford, and lives in Oakland, California.
