Samenvatting

Salford Lads Club is one of the most famous venues in the whole of the north of England. People come from all over the world to stand in front of it, and all in honour of a band called 'The Smiths' from the 1980s and its charismatic singer, Morrisey. That's not news to Mickey, but his favourite music is from another era and he's not moved by the warblings in question. In fact, the only reason he's in Salford that time is because of someone he used to serve with in the British Army, and his older brother, Maurice, a man now heavily involved with the Club. Is that why people are trying to kill him? Mickey wants to help out, but even he is baffled. What possible reason can there be to mount such a campaign against such a harmless seeming individual? Perhaps, Mickey starts thinking, there's something else as stake, something else entirely. It's not about music, not even about the youth centre. It's more about the building, and where it stands in relation to property development and vested interests. Mickey, as ever, isn't fazed by the array of powerful forces against him. He is going to confront the guilty and see that criminals are punished. Also, since he is here, he's going to keep Maurice alive. That's a priority.
