How do parents cope with the daily hassles and long-term strains of caring for a disabled child? How important are support networks for these parents? Do services help or hinder the coping process? These are some of the questions being voiced by practitioners, researchers, lay people and even parents themselves about families who are caring for and bringing up a disabled child. Drawing on the findings of a study of 20 families caring for a severely disabled child, this book examines the personal and social resources upon which parents draw, and the strategies they use to cope from day to day.
