The inhabitants of Prague have always been aesthetes, art- and culture-lovers. Bohemian art, often blended with subtle nationalism, has forged the unique spirit that permeates the city. At the turn of the century three cultures, Czech, German and Jewish, created an extraordinarily fertile melange, illuminating the twilight years of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy. These experiences have led the people of Prague to strive especially hard to express and assert themselves.
