Geschreven bij Refusal

Het komt vaker voor: een auteur treedt in het voetspoor van een illustere voorganger. Dorothy Sayers, P.G. Woodhouse en Arie van der Heyde, bij hen allen werd gepoogd om een vervolg te schrijven op de avonturen van respectievelijk Lord Wimsey, Jeeves en Bertie, en Bob, Jan en dikke Arie Roos. Met meer of minder succes, maar naar mijn mening nooit echt geslaagd.
Felix Francis daarentegen schrijft alsof hij de reïncarnatie van zijn vader is. De karakters, de plot, de ontknoping: als je niet beter wist zou je denken dat Dick ze zelf had geschreven. Helemaal goed. Dit boek is dan ook een dikke aanrader, een look-alike van Dick in zijn beste jaren.
