Dit boek gaat over genetische modificatie van gewassen en de weerstand daartegen maar het gaat ook over de schrijver zelf. Mark Lynas voerde ooit als milieu-activist strijd tegen genetisch gemodificeerde gewassen, maar is 180 graden gedraaid. In dit boek beschrijft hij de historie van genetische modificatie, en maakt hij duidelijk waarom hij nu een groot voorstander is. Ook het doen en laten van Monsanto komt uitvoerig aan bod.
Dit boek is denk ik ook interessant om te lezen als je tegen genetische modificatie bent. Lynas gaat op bedachtzame wijze in op de bezwaren en zet zijn tegenstanders niet weg als wappies. Dit is geen schreeuwerig boek maar een zorgvuldig geschreven verhandeling van iemand die zich echt in het onderwerp verdiept heeft.
