This is a collection of stories focusing on the experiences of the author and his fellow airmen who served in the United States airforces from World War II through to the Korean War - their triumphs, humour, loves, and sometime violent deaths. The author describes encounters with some of the top flying aces of his day, the experience of victory in battle and the emotional rescues in the world's first military helicopters. Stories like the seemingly invincible Convair B-36 disappearing on Valentines Day, 1950, with an atomic bomb in its bay or the real-life Hawkeye Pierce, of the 8055 MASH, and his habit of playing elaborate jokes on comrades leading to a harrowing nighttime helicopter rescue - and to the pilot's being recommended for both medal of valor & court martial.
