Pieter Voss, a successful detective sergeant, quit the Amsterdam police force in order to find his missing daughter. Much to his surprise a young detective, Laura, visits him on behalf of the Amsterdam super intendent. Pieter's help is most needed. Against the background of Amsterdam's crime scene Pieter has to deal with the dissappearence of the mayor's daughter as well. It strikes him that the circumstances are identical to those of his own daughter. Suspension, killings, adultery and the mob are the ingredients of this great thriller that is worthwhile reading.
