The story of Time And Time Again spans nineteen hundred years. The novel opens with the deathbed scene of the Roman Emperor Hadrianus, CE 138. Eight years before, during an excursion on the Nile River in Egypt, Antinous, Hadrianus' young and beautiful lover mysteriously drowned. Was the death a suicide, an accident, murder by a jealous courtier, or commanded by Hadrianus?

Nineteen hundred years later we meet all the people involved, prosaically working at the University of Minnesota. They are fractal images of the of their original selves, different yet surprisingly similar. They are given the opportunity to re-enact the mysterious death of Antinous and perhaps make other choices.
