Wilbur Addison Smith (1933)is een Zuid-Afrikaans schrijver. Zijn romans spelen zich voornamelijk af in Afrika. Hij werd geboren in Noord-Rhodesië (tegenwoordig Zambia) en ging naar de Michaelhouse en Rhodes University. Zijn eerste roman schreef hij terwijl hij werkte bij Salisbury Inland Revenue, de Rhodesische belastingdienst. In 1964 publiceerde Smith When the Lion Feeds (Het goud van Natal/Als de Leeuw zijn Prooi slaat ) en besloot hij full time aan zijn schrijverscarrière te werken. Na dit succesvolle boek schreef hij nog meer dan 30 boeken, allen gebaseerd op zijn avonturen en expedities over de hele wereld. Zijn boeken zijn vertaald in meer dan 25 talen.
