Willie Doherty (* 1959) works in the media of photography, video, and sound installations. Many of his narrative-oriented works question aspects of visual representation while taking into consideration its truth-conveying character, a quality contemporary media supposedly have. Doherty's works are created on the narrow threshold between the documentary and the staged work. They reflect a world that is marked by television news, the fantasies conveyed in the movies, tourist-oriented information, popular stereotypes, and collective memory.
