Samenvatting

Adriatic Pilot is the standard guide to Croatia and the neighbouring countries of Slovenia, Montenegro and Albania which is now celebrating 25 years of publication. It also provides coverage of the eastern coast of Italy and is the only guide to the Venice Lagoon and harbours adjacent to Istria. At present, this is the only book that covers the entire Adriatic region in a single volume. Trevor and Dinah Thompson's thoroughly-researched work provides all the essential navigational information for yachtsmen visiting the area. This 7th edition has been fully revised to include up-to-date technical information and details of new marinas and their facilities. The user-friendly charts included in the introduction to each section are now cross-referenced to the larger scale plans in the text and page referencing is more comprehensive. Each coastal section is colour-coded and identifiable by colour tabs that improve navigation around the book. This seventh edition of Adriatic Pilot is complemented by Imray's series of charts for the Dalmatian Coast. 'I have reviewed several pilot books in recent years and this is head and shoulders above them all. It is very easy to use and for anyone unfamiliar with the area it is particularly good as it not only includes all the essential general information about the countries but is subdivided with clear general maps of each area/country, with all ports and anchorages marked, plus an overall map of the entire area covered by the book. Each harbour/anchorage is dealt with in a consistent manner with the information in the order that one is likely to need it - general, approach, lights, berthing, shelter, facilities, anchoring. What's more where anchoring is an option the sketch charts and navigational instructions are more than adequate to permit safe anchoring without also carrying large scale charts for every inlet, even assuming they exist which in many cases they don't.     Zeer uitgebreide pilot met daarin naast havens ook zeer volledige beschrijvingen van de vele baaitjes aan de Adriatische kust. Prettig geschreven, tussen de regels door lees je precies de sfeer die er hangt op de aan te doen en plaatsen. Tijdens onze 1 weekse flottielje reis vanuit Pula veel van de gebieden uit hoofdstuk 3.4 aangedaan. De inleidende tekst over de Adriatische zee, weersystemen, regelgeving etc is ook zeker de moeite waard.

    Concluderend goede pilot voor een aanvaardbare prijs.

    Deze Imray pilot van Thompson heeft hetzelfde niveau als die van Heikell voor andere zeilgebieden en de layout is herkenbaar eenvoudig. Wel had ik graag meer uitgaven voor kleinere stukken kust gekocht. Voor een week charteren is Het grote boek overbodig.
