Angiogenesis Biology and Pathology

The generation of the vascular system is an important part of embryonic development. Formation of new blood vessels that supply growing tumors with nutrients is also an essential aspect of cancer progression. Work pioneered by researchers such as Judah Folkman, to whom this book is dedicated, has illuminated the mechanisms by which new blood vessels are produced and the vascular system as a whole is patterned. The contributors to this volume review our understanding of the mechanisms of angiogenesis, its role in cancer and other pathologies, as well as therapeutic approaches that target angiogenesis to combat these diseases.
