Basisboek meteorologie.
Het boek is een redelijk goed standaardwerk voor de meteorologie. Wanneer men echter bij het begin wil beginnen in de meteorologie is het wat te moeilijk. Het is een boek voor 2e of 3e jaar bachelor niveau. Ook de wiskunde in het boek vereist de nodige kennis van vectoranalyse en minimaal VWO-niveau voor de overige wiskunde.
Het boek begint met de meer ondersteunende onderdelen van de meteorologie: daarmee bedoel ik de deelgebieden van de natuurkunde die blijvend terugkomen in allerlei meteorologische fenomenen en processen. Dat zijn bijvoorbeeld thermodynamica, wolkenfysica en dynamica. Daarna komen er hoofdstukken over bepaalde deelgebieden van de meteorologie.
Een belangrijke opmerking is dat Wallace en Hobbs bepaalde formules niet in de juiste eenheden weergeven. Bijvoorbeeld een van de eerste formules van het boek is F=massa*dichtheid (dus in N/m3) oftewel de tweede wet van Newton, maar dan in de verkeerde eenheden! Daarom is het aan te raden om af en toe dimensie-analyses te doen om de formules te controleren.Vond je dit een nuttige review?40
