Behind Bars. Is a compelling account of horrific child abuse within the family. Elizabeth and her siblings were preyed upon by their deviant father from an early age. Elizabeth uses her own words to relate the story of her childhood if you can call it that. The horrendous attacks and atrocities carried out. Her journey through adolescence and her daily struggle, with guilt and shame. Her journey into adulthood and the raising of her own family along with having to deal with her relationship with a new potential threat in her life, her husband. The reader should be warned of the horrors within the pages, even the court case is dealt with openly and frankly the case against her Father was brought to court some 40 years after his almost inhuman acts were carried out. At the age of 80 he was found guilty of 23 charges brought against him. The judge was so appalled he told him that had he been a younger man he would have had no compunction in passing a life sentence. Although the sentence he passed was in its own way Life. Handing down a 14 year prison term. Before passing judgment he was reminded he had remained non repentant throughout the hearing, and that he had not only committed the crimes and been found guilty, but he had forced his children to relive all the horrors of their childhood in court, and in front of complete strangers. Her father's crimes were even compared to that of Fred and Rosemary West but without the bodies. Elizabeth then goes on to tell a heartwarming tale of life after the trial. The rebuilding of relationships. The euphoria of being set free. And the realization that once the past is addressed it can be laid to rest. A truly remarkable, enlightening and encouraging story.
