Samenvatting

This is a book written by a non-scientist for the non-scientist. It is written so that if you, like many others, find science is frustratingly complicated with graphs, maths and diagrams you will delighted by this refreshing and easy to read summary of the way in which quantum theory has changed our view of reality forever. You will look anew at the idea of other dimensions, the Big Bang, the human brain and time itself. You may not understand how something can be in two places at once, move faster than light, nor time can go backwards, but you will understand that nobody knows the answer to these questions anyway. Above all you will know what an incredible chapter of history you are living through. It is very clear that the world of physics has come to a crossroads not only between the two competing theories of relativity and quantum theory but also the possibility that we need a completely new direction to look in if we are to make any sense of the new and amazing discoveries, which are now almost daily. In order to put these pieces together we have to start thinking outside the box, mix philosophy with research and experience, and be prepared to think the absurd. I have deliberately decided to look at the issues from a very much taken for granted perspective which is often dismissed as irrelevant, ‘coincidence’. It is a concept we could just as easily call probability and as such is at the heart of the most mind boggling theory of our age, quantum theory. However, before the reader can start to make sense of the very real possibility of other dimensions, and start to share in the incredible and awesome developments taking place they will need to familiarise themselves with what is known as the Standard Model, quantum theory and some of the fundamentals of physics. So sit back, take your time and check it all out by visiting any of the sites referred to and placed at the back of the book. I have numbered each issue or theory you may want to question, explore or verify. You will find the reference for each number in the relevant chapter at the back of the book in the Bibliography. Many of these are websites which, at the date of publication, were up and running. John Blackall
