This book was written by a person not so different from you, who has been fortunate enough to uncover and organize fundamental life principles into a simple foundation for living that really works; a foundation based on advice from some of the greatest thinkers, philosophers, writers and historically successful individuals of all time.
Endeavor to Live does not attempt to provide you a step-by-step path to utopia. Your life and situation is unique - only you can find your best path and live your best life. Endeavor to Live is based on helping you know what is really important to you, and learn how to think and a react in manner that creates the life you really want.
The title for Endeavor to Live was inspired by a quote by Henry David Thoreau; "If one advances confidently in the direction of his dreams, and endeavors to live the life which he has imagined, he will meet with success unexpected in common hours." Notice that between "dreams" and "success" is "endeavor to live." That is what this book is about - our endeavor to live.
Endeavor to Live refers to your effort to pursue the life you really want. How you live your life is the determining factor in your quality of life and your level of happiness, contentment, and success. However, we don't think much about how we want to live our lives. Instead, we think about what we want to happen in our lives. We tend to think about our lives as series of events rather than a process. We can't wait for "the right girl to come along" or to "find our dream job" or for "something good to happen" or to "win the lottery." Rather than waiting on life to happen, this book focuses on living in a manner that will create the kind of life you really want.
The author, Ellis Seal, started documenting these principles as he wrote letters to his children in high school. As he reflected on these principles, and started to ingrain them more deeply in his own thought process, he found that he experienced much less stress, and more happiness, and more contentment. He also found that sharing these principles with others improved their lives.
Ellis is an accomplished engineer, inventor, and entrepreneur. He has developed, designed, and patented production products from the nose cone of the Space Shuttle External Tank to Composite Acoustics carbon fiber acoustic guitars. The same passion and creativity that led him to invent also led him to write.
He is the fortunate husband to a wonderful wife and the blessed father of 3 awesome children. He has faced the same kind of issues and struggles you face. He has experienced success and failure, good times and tough times (he rode out hurricane Katrina in his attic as all his possessions were washed away).
Although not famous or renowned, he is a man who believes he should attempt to make the most of his life - and believes that each of us can make a difference in our world. His endeavor to live his life in to its fullest has led him on a lifelong search for wisdom. And when the principles he had learned began to gel into a cohesive foundation for living, he felt compelled to write this book, because he sincerely believes that it will be beneficial to all who read it.
