A very good book of the author of Eleanor & Park. The story starts with Cath and Wren (twins) going off to college. For the first time in their life they are going to live separately, because Wren wants to start living her own life and being her own person. Going to college makes Cath scared and nervous and mostly she stays in her dorm room and writes fanfiction for Simon Snow. But an outgoing roommate and her boyfriend that seems to always be around change her plans and Cath sort of starts to like it, but then her dad has another episode, Wren is never around and drinking and partying too much and their mother, who left them on 9/11, comes back.

This book is good, funny, awesome, engrossing and the author does a perfect job of making it seem as though you are Cath and you can really feel how she is feeling about everything. Her nerves, her doubts, her worries and at the end of the book all you want is more.
The book also contains small excerpts of the Simon Snow stories and Cath's fanfiction, which makes this story even more real. And the small digs at the Harry Potter story/fandom are great too!

Geschreven door een fangirl vóór fangirls/boys of misschien ook wel gewoon voor mensen die willen weten wat er nu zo fijn is aan fandom. Het debat over fandom vs rl wordt goed beschreven én met fijne hoofdpersonages. Also, I ship it.

Echt geweldig boek! De titel trok me natuurlijk meteen aan, want ik ben zelf actief in fandoms en ik vond dat ze erg realistisch weer werden gegeven. Ik kon me ook echt heel goed inleven in Cath, want we lijken erg op elkaar. Hoewel ik geen schrijver van fanfictie ben zoals Cath, lees ik het wel veel en shipping is mij ook erg bekend, haha. Zeker een aanrader voor als je zelf deel van een fandom bent of als je er iets over wil leren.

Ik vond dit een G-E-W-E-L-D-I-G boek,
ik kreeg onmiddellijk zin om zelf fanfictie te schrijven/lezen.

But I persuade you to take a peek inside, because it's really so much more...

There is nothing over-the-top about this plot; no heavy drama infiltrating these pages. This story thrives in its delicate simplicity—and offers power through its unique relatibility.

Dit boek was echt heel erg leuk! Omdat ik zelf ook in veel fandoms zit en fanfictions lees is het interessant om ook eens een boek erover te lezen. Rainbow Rowell schrijft dit op zo'n manier dat het grappig en geboeid blijft. De verhalen die Cath schrijft en fan van is lijken erg veel op de Harry Potter verhalen, wat het extra leuk maakt.

Loved this from start to finish! As an anxious fangirl myself, i could relate to Cath so well! I didn't want the book to end!

Het verhaal was aangenaam om te lezen, de karakters zijn mooi geschetst en het boek is eenvoudig, maar goed geschreven. zeker de moeite waard!

Dit boek is zeker een vakantieaanrader, het is eigenlijk een feel good boek. Er komen wel dagelijkse problemen in, maar het is vooral een heel blij boek. Als je weet wat een fandom is, en misschien zelf ooit fanfiction hebt geschreven is het ook extra leuk om te volgen omdat het hoofdpersonage hetzelfde doet. Het enige minpunt voor mij was dat er een tweede verhaal (het fanfictionverhaal) in verworven zit. Dat kon me eigenlijk niet bekoren of interesseren, dus dat mocht weggelaten worden.

Fangirl is een leuk verhaal dat makkelijk te lezen is, maar ik was er ook niet compleet weg van. Bepaalde personages worden na verloop van tijd een beetje irritant en ook de 'Simon Snow' stukjes vond ik niet heel erg leuk. Daarentegen is het wel een lief verhaal en zijn de situaties waar Cath zich in bevind erg herkenbaar. Als je een simpel, leuk verhaal zoekt, kan ik Fangirl aanraden.
