Samenvatting

Preface The spiritual journey of this writer began in 1968 at the cross. That year constituted the year of spiritual birth and beginning of the pilgrim journey. This spiritual journey has been along the routes of Baptist Pastor and Army Chaplain. This journey has involved a tour of duty in both pastoral and military service. Both of these areas of service have included the same basic motive, message, and method. That is to say that the ministry priorities have remained the same on all fronts! That priority has been to exalt the Saviour, evangelize the sinner, and to edify the saint. Any success along these lines is attributed to the grace of God. I am gratified to be a Pastor to the kind and gracious members of Smith Grove Baptist Church. I am especially indebted to the Editor of our Church Newsletter, Sherrill Crater, for the many hours she gave of her time in the consolidation of these articles. Credit also goes to my wife, Carol, for her part in the proofing of the writings. These writings reflect thought during time spent in Military assignments and include articles written down through the years while serving as Pastor of Smith Grove Baptist Church. I, obviously, am also grateful for such a gracious and supportive church! Many of these articles have also been posted in the church Newsletter and “Call to Glory” devotional guide. This book highlights the Motto of the Army Chaplaincy which is “PRO DEO ET PATRIA” which simply means, “For God and Country.” The reader will find articles of devotional content and also articles with a patriotic flavor. You will find in these pages perspectives from the standpoint of a Soldier, a Pastor, and a plain old American citizen burdened over the new directions of this great Country that we love and call home. I have also included a few selections of poetic nature. I only desire that the dear Lord will be pleased to bless these writings in the bringing of glory to Himself through the salvation of the unsaved and the encouragement of those who are on the spiritual journey to the “promised land” by virtue of salvation through the finished work of Christ. I especially pray that these “writings” will stimulate in the heart of God’s people the emotions to match the words of Peter when he stated, “Whom having not seen, ye love; in whom, though now ye see him not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory: “(I Pet. 1:8) I would also pray that this book will give us all a greater appreciation of our military and greater pride in being an American. Chuck Peters
