Salman Rushdie is schrijver van elf romans, één verhalenbundel en drie non-fictiewerken, en een van onze invloedrijkste denkers. Rushdie is Commandeur des Arts et des Lettres en werd in 2007 geridderd voor zijn jarenlange verdiensten voor literatuur. Hij werd in 1947 geboren in Bombay en debuteerde in 1975 net de roman Grimus.
