Nadat ik een imkercursus had gevolgd zat ik met zoveel vragen! De antwoorden vond ik in dit boek!
De traditionele imkerij is eigenlijk praktisch en landbouw/veeteelt gericht. Ik had vragen over de biologie en de natuur. Honingbijen bestaan al zoveel langer dan de mens! Hoe (over) leven ze dan in de natuur? Dat honingbijen alleen in een kast zouden overleven blijkt helemaal niet waar. En dat we ze moeten helpen door varroamijt te bestrijden klopt ook niet.
Seeley legt een brug, door niet alleen te beschrijven hoe bijen zich in het wild gedragen, maar door ook aanbevelingen te doen aan bijenhouders die willen aansluiten bij het natuurlijke gedrag van de honingbij.
Heel mooi boek, met resultaten van wetenschappelijke onderzoek, maar ook heel fijn leesbaar!
