A novel you can't put down, a masterful thriller. One learns a lot about the American judicial system, how prisons operate and lives of crime, but though very well written don't expect brilliant and inventive turns of phrases in this novel, like Ian McEwen, Mary McCarthy or Harry Mulisch if you read Dutch. Do expect a gripping story that half way through has you thinking there are too many loose ends, an obvious alibi here and there, so what is wrong? - I have to go on reading to find out. But it all ties together brilliantly in the end. It is all fiction, but one has the idea, it could have happened, it could happen!
