Smith is best known for two classic works: An Inquiry into the Nature and Causes of the Wealth of Nations (typically called The Wealth of Nations; 1776) and The Theory of Moral Sentiments (1759). The former, usually abbreviated as The Wealth of Nations, is considered his magnum opus and the first modern work of economics.

Samenvatting

"An Inquiry into the Nature and Causes of the Wealth of Nations", generally referred to by its shortened title "The Wealth of Nations", is the work of the Scottish economist and moral philosopher Adam Smith. First published in 1776, the books offers one of the worlds first collected descriptions of what builds nations wealth and are today a fundamental work in classical economics. Through reflection over the economics at the beginning of the Industrial Revolution the book touches upon broad topics as Division of labour, productivity and free markets.Adam Smith (5 June 1723 – 17 July 1790) was a Scottish social philosopher and a pioneer of political economy. One of the key figures of the Scottish Enlightenment, Smith is the author of The Principles Which Lead and Direct Philosophical Enquiries, Illustrated by the History of Astronomy, prior to 1758, The Theory of Moral Sentiments, 1759. Smith is cited as the father of modern economics and capitalism and is still among the most influential thinkers in the field of economics today.

    Print kwaliteit is vreselijk slecht, lastig te lezen.
    Er zijn beter leesbare versies van deze klassieker te vinden. De inhoud van het boek is wat het is, een economische klassieker, niet voor iedereen weggelegd maar voor economen zeker het lezen waard.

    Geschreven bij The Wealth of Nations

    Als je dit boek wil hebben, koop dan een andere versie/editie. Deze uitvoering is lelijk geprint en de letters zijn veel te klein, waardoor het bijna onleesbaar wordt. Er is geen paginanummering, veel te veel witruimte om de tekst heen (terwijl de interlinie weer veel te klein is) en de cover is een uitvergroot JPG plaatje. Geen aanrader dus!

    Geschreven bij Wealth Of Nation

    Dit boek helpt je begrijpen hoe de moderne economie is ontstaan en hoe de economie er vroeger nou uitzag. We staan weinig stil bij dit verschil. Adam Smith beschrijft theoretisch hoe de economie optimaal gaat verlopen in de toekomst, maar realiseer je ook dat het de vrije markt economie zelfs vandaag nog behoorlijk lastig wordt gemaakt. Wealth of Nations is zeer ouderwets geschreven, en eist wel wat aanpassingsvermogen en aandacht van de lezer om er doorheen te komen.
