Samenvatting

This is part of a series of books in which particular verses are picked from books of the bible, and the issues of Spiritual Growth are explored, in the light of the mind of God for us.

In this book, we explore six topics, from different verses in the books of Hebrews, James, 1Peter and 2Peter. They are: Senses trained to discern good and evil; Laws in the heart; The Lord's dealings; Of freemen and bond slaves; Partaking of the coming glory; and Supplements to the Christian faith.

Excerpts:

Senses trained to discern good and evil

"The difference between Moses and the children of Israel is the difference between the babe and the matured. The bible says that the children of Israel know the acts of God, but Moses knows the ways God (Psalm 103:7); the acts of God the tangibles, while the ways of God are the principles.

Laws in the heart

"Meekness is an attitude of humility; it is the law of humility in the heart. God resists the proud and gives grace to the humble (James 4:6). Jesus said that blessed are the meek because they shall inherit the earth (Matthew 5:5). Jesus described himself as meek and lowly in heart (Matthew 11:29, 21:5). Meekness is seeing others as better as yourself; does not deny who you are, but underplays it."

The Lord's dealings

"The Lord's dealing is the processing, which shoots up your value (processed material have more value than the raw). That is the outcome of the Lord's dealings: value addition.

"Summarily, the Lord's dealings are for training, processing and discipline for us to share his holiness, be blessed and be a blessing."

Of freemen and bond slaves

"Such commitment begins with the renewal of our mind, which will ensure that our live pattern is not after the way of the world but that we live transformed lives, transformed by word of God; just as a psalmist said: your words have I keep in my heart that I may not sin against you (Psalm 119:11)."

Partaking of the coming glory

"The crowning of all these exciting promises of the glory that we will partake of at the coming of Jesus Christ again a second time is that we will forever be with the Lord, enjoying his presence forever. Just as the bride long for the day of the joining with the groom, the church also should long to be home with the Lord with the joy, splendour and bliss that would be ours without measure."

Supplements to the Christian faith

"Grace in this sense means spiritual capacity and energy, while knowledge is to know God as he knows himself, and knowing what God knows. Grace is the measure of impact you are having on others spiritually, while knowledge is increasing awareness and capacity to view things from God's perspective.

"So between now and judgement day, we want to know how the gift of time that God gives you has been transformed into more grace and more knowledge."
