Mary Olivers werk raakt keer op keer een ongelooflijke diepte in het alledaagse bestaan. Dit boek las ik afgelopen herfst en inmiddels heb ik ook haar Long Life essays in huis gehaald. Olivers poëzie brengt me keer op keer aan het huilen vanuit schoonheid en ontroering. Ik herken haar liefde voor het leven en de natuur op een innige wijze. Haar proza kleurt op een andere manier je binnenwereld. Theorie over creativiteit, afgewisseld met een omschrijving van haar dagelijkse leven zoals haar leven aan de zee (voordat ze in de moerassen van Florida woonde) of de beer die een dorpje bezorgd, geven je een brede, voldane glimlach.
