The purpose of this book is to prepare you for divorce, whether you think you will be leaving your spouse soon, or at some time in the future. There are so many women out there trapped in an unhappy marriage with a controlling and manipulating husband. They have little or no access to the money, and they are subjected to any number of forms of abuse. While this book is intended for a primarily female audience, men in unhappy marriages will also find it useful. I was stuck in a miserable marriage for over a decade. I didn't know what to do, how to get out. I wasn't equipped to save myself and take control of my care and future. I am living proof that I successfully divorced my husband. I am independent, self-sufficient and very happy. I survived a lengthy and stressful divorce process. You can, too. Deciding to leave your marriage is a big decision. It is lonely. It is a decision clouded with shame and regret. You will need a great deal of help and you should not be shy about asking for it. I asked for help and to this day I am extremely grateful. My family and friends helped me with advice and support. They recommended and referred professionals. They took care of my children. They came and moved my belongings. And they lent me money. Asking for help shows good self-care. Care about yourself - you're worth it You can always pay it back, or pay it forward. If people were not willing to help you, they wouldn't offer. There is no need to have any regrets. You are loved. Accept the help. This book is my way of offering to help. It is intended to be small and discreet in size, but powerful and large in its message. You Can, Too should be considered a practical guide to the divorce process, not a self-help book to help you overcome emotional issues. It's meant to be your "go-to" book for divorce. Read through it more than once. Highlight the points that stand out for you. Refer to the sections that apply to your current stage in the process. Keep it in your purse, or under your bed. Hide it from anyone that should not be aware that you are considering a divorce. It's meant to be your secret friend. I was completely ignorant about how to leave my husband and what the divorce process was going to entail. When I asked my husband for a separation, I didn't care. I just wanted out. What unfolded for me turned out to be some of the most difficult, challenging, rewarding, and shocking months of my life. Much of what I learned is not anything that my friends or my lawyer could help me with. That is why I wanted to write down what I learned and share it with you. I have valuable insight and information to share with you. It was not easy to write this book since it brought back so many feelings and memories of a difficult period in my life. I just felt strongly that I had to write down what I learned so that others might benefit from my experience. I hope you benefit from the information in this book.
